The insurance industry in New Zealand has been very challenging in 2023 with not one, but two “once in a hundred-year” weather events with Cyclone Gabrielle in Feb and further devastating floods in May. Many insurance companies have struggled with the sheer volume of claims, which was further exacerbated since many staff could not get into the call centre to handle claims due to flooding.
