REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Oct. 29, 2018 – Sumo Logic, the leading cloud-native, machine data analytics platform that delivers continuous intelligence, today announced that The Pokémon Company International, a subsidiary of The Pokémon Company in Japan, has selected Sumo Logic to strengthen overall security posture, gain a unified view of operations, and deliver on its core values of trust and child safety.
The Pokémon Co., a global billion dollar gaming company, serves hundreds of millions of users within its multi-tenant Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment, many of which are children and young adults. As a result, Pokémon gathers a massive data lake of personally identifiable information (PII) and sensitive children’s data, including dates of birth, email addresses, and geolocation data and travel patterns from cell phones using the popular Pokémon Go app. With existing and new privacy regulations such as the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Children’s Online Protection Privacy Act (COPPA), Pokémon is under immense pressure to demonstrate not only ongoing compliance, but also a resilient security posture.
As the company continues to scale its business, it quickly became apparent to Pokémon’s Director of Information Security and Data Protection Officer, John Visneski, that he and his team had to get ahead of this growth by taking appropriate measures to deliver an exemplary privacy and security program to log and track access of all data flowing across its environment. In order to do this, Pokémon would implement a government-grade global security operations center (SOC) and leverage Sumo Logic’s cloud-native machine data analytics platform and pre-built security and compliance dashboards to provide centralized security and business insights of all data flowing across its networks.

Both companies are leveraging Sumo Logic’s continuous intelligence to quickly identify malicious activity and respond in an automated fashion, and will continue to share security best practices for ongoing collaboration and innovation.
