Next Generation Log Management and Analytics Company Launches Zero-cost, Premium-feature Version of its Cloud-based Software as a Service on Amazon Web Services

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA June 25, 2012 Sumo Logic, the next generation log management and analytics company, today announced general availability of Sumo Logic Free, the first and only enterprise-class free log management and analytics service. The free version of Sumo Logic’s cloud-based service on Amazon Web Services (AWS) offers full functionality, including distributed search, analytics, monitoring and alerting, and role-based access controls, with no third-party hardware or software required to run the service. Eliminating the need for expensive premise-based solutions that require expensive upfront investments in hardware and frequent log management software upgrades, Sumo Logic delivers a petabyte scale platform that provides companies with immediate access to valuable operational insights from their log data in real time.

“Putting log management and analysis in the cloud can enable greater efficiency and flexibility with significantly less overhead,” said Jay Lyman, Senior Analyst, 451 Research. “The availability of Sumo Logic Free, which provides a good balance of granularity and scalability in real-time, enables users to better manage their infrastructure and applications at no cost.”

Sumo Logic Free provides users with insights into applications and infrastructure operations by enabling them to collect, manage and analyze up to 3.5GB of log data. Using Sumo Logic’s distributed Big Data pipeline, Sumo Logic Free enables users to analyze data with near-zero latency and to react in real time to resolve issues before there is an operational impact on the business. Sumo Logic Free runs atop AWS and has built-in high availability across four AWS Availability Zones. To make use of the unprecedented scale of log data, Sumo Logic Free employs real-time forensics, returning actionable insights from terabytes of data in seconds.

“Sumo Logic is providing a unique approach to log management,” said Terry Wise, Director of Worldwide Partner Ecosystem, Amazon Web Services. “Taking advantage of Amazon Web Services, Sumo Logic is able to provide customers an enterprise-grade version of their product free of charge. This offers anyone with a corporate email account an opportunity to leverage the constant stream of log data generated in their organization to increase visibility and deliver actionable IT and business insights.”

Sumo Logic Free is equipped with Sumo Logic’s patent-pending LogReduceTM technology, which uses real-time forensics to reduce millions of log lines into a manageable set of patterns that enable IT teams to quickly identify and resolve performance issues. It is also powered by the patent-pending Elastic Log ProcessingTM technology, a petabyte scale indexing and search platform designed specifically for Big Data volumes, allowing it to far surpass the scalability of on-premise solutions.

“The real-time indexing engine behind Sumo Logic Free is a game changer,” said Sylvain Niles, Head of Operations at Outright. “Despite the large quantities of data that we manage on a daily basis, Sumo Logic’s service has freed Outright to reduce the time spent managing logs to almost zero, increasing the amount of time available for application development. With Sumo Logic, Outright was quickly able to exceed the efficiency of any on-premise solution we could have built, for a more streamlined view of our log data.”

“Sumo Logic Free delivers enterprises a forward-looking approach for turning machine data into valuable insights about their applications, operations and customers,” said Vance Loiselle, CEO of Sumo Logic. “By offering Sumo Logic Free on AWS, we’ve eliminated the high costs of managing an on-premise solution, including buying hardware, performing frequent software upgrades, and constantly trying to overcome performance issues. Sumo Logic Free provides the first truly free-of-charge, enterprise-class log management service.”

Since emerging from stealth in January 2012, Sumo Logic has been recognized for its groundbreaking technology. The company has been honored as a Red Herring 2012 Top 100 Americas winner, received the Judge’s Choice and Audience Choice Awards for Performance Monitoring at Under the Radar, and earlier this year, the company was named one of RSA’s top ten finalists for the Most Innovative Company at RSA.
