Sumo Logic started out in 2010 by experts in log management, scalable systems, Big Data, and security. We imagined a world of Yottabyte-scale machine data, where machine learning algorithms could make sense of it all. Today, our purpose-built Cloud-native service has scaled to over 4 Petabytes of data, and our amazing team is focused on delivering data-driven insight to enterprises worldwide. President & CEO

As CEO, Ramin brings 20 years of industry experience as a strategic and operating leader of both small and large organizations, and has a strong track record of developing innovative products in both emerging and mature markets. Ramin joined Sumo Logic from VMware where he formulated the strategy for and built the industry’s leading private cloud management products. The Cloud Management Business Unit became the fastest growing business within VMware, with nearly $1 billion in revenue during his nearly five-year tenure. Previously, Ramin held executive roles at leading enterprises, including Vice President of Products and Strategy at HP Software, Senior Director of Products at Mercury Software, Director of Products and Solutions at TIBCO, Product Line Marketing Manager at iPlanet Software, and Product Line Marketing Manager at Netscape. He also serves on the technology and executive boards of various startup companies. Ramin holds an MBA from San Jose State University and B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Co-Founder and VP of Engineering

Kumar is co-founder of Sumo Logic, leading the business’s innovation in engineering a cloud-native, scalable analytics platform since 2010. Prior to Sumo Logic, Kumar was instrumental in designing and building the data analysis infrastructure for Mint.com (acquired by Intuit). Kumar also served at ArcSight from 2001 to 2008, where as Director of Engineering he supervised teams responsible for correlation, analytics and compliance solutions deployed on ArcSight ESM and Logger products. Kumar holds several patents, including methods to automatically mine security attacks from raw event data, as well as to identify patterns across network security systems. Kumar received his M.S. in Computer Science from Columbia University and B.S. in Computer Science from IIT Kharagpur.

Co-Founder & CTO

As co-founder of Sumo Logic, Christian brings 15 years experience creating industry-leading enterprise software architecture. Christian played critical roles at ArcSight from 2001 through January 2010, most recently serving as Chief Architect for event-based products, ArcSight ESM and ArcSight Logger. He led development teams that built and delivered the core of the ArcSight product line across server infrastructure and user interaction. He designed and implemented the core backend event handling and object-relational mapping frameworks, and was integral in the design and development of core product features such as a flexible framework for real-time query processing. Christian also co-designed and implemented a patented approach to display large result sets that change dynamically. Prior to ArcSight, he was co-founder of Gigaton, an infrastructure software company enabling distributed file management solution over IP-enabled networks. Christian holds degrees from Humboldt University of Berlin and Fachhochschule Brandenburg.

Bruno Kurtic

Founding VP of Product and Strategy

Bruno leads product strategy and development for Sumo Logic, pioneering machine-learning technology to address growing volumes of machine data across enterprise networks. He joined Sumo Logic from SenSage, where he served as Vice President of Product Management, developing technology, go-to-market strategy and product roadmaps for data warehousing, GRC, SIEM and log management solutions. Before joining SenSage, Bruno developed and implemented growth strategies for large high-tech clients at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), including a $7 billion R&D organization. He spent six years at webMethods, where he was a Product Group Director for two product lines, started the west coast engineering team and played a key role in the acquisition of Active Software Inc. Bruno also served at Andersen Consulting’s Center for Strategic Technology in Palo Alto and founded a software company that developed handwriting and voice recognition software. Bruno holds an MBA from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and B.A. in Quantitative Methods and Computer Science from University of St. Thomas.

As VP of Marketing, Daniel brings over 15 years of enterprise software experience from a wide swath of industry segments, including Internet Security, Enterprise Collaboration and Software Developer Tools. Prior to Sumo Logic, Daniel spent six years at the Australian software firm, Atlassian. As VP of Product Marketing, he led the company’s packaging and positioning efforts across its wide product portfolio. During his tenure at Atlassian, he also held senior management positions in Sales, Customer Service, Demand Generation and General Management. Prior to Atlassian, Daniel joined Symantec, via its $250 million acquisition of Brightmail Inc. As a product management leader, Daniel grew Symantec’s email security appliance business from $0 to a $40 million per year in four years. Daniel started his career in Product Management at Cobalt Networks and continued through its acquisition by Sun Microsystems for $1.8 billion. He holds a master’s degree from ESCP-Europe (Paris) and B.A. from Claremont McKenna College.

Rick brings more than 20 years of experience in corporate finance and operations to Sumo Logic. He led the finance function for Google Capital and also worked in mergers and acquisitions, leading several industry-shifting transactions including Google’s acquisition of Motorola for $12.5 billion. Before joining Google, Rick was a director in PWC’s transaction services practice where he advised private equity and corporate clients. He also co-founded Fugent, a leading provider of online communication and collaboration tools to the financial services industry. Rick is a CPA, holds an MBA from Emory University and B.S.B.A in Accounting from Bowling Green State University.

A proven sales and channel management leader, Mark comes to Sumo Logic with over 17 years experience in both early-stage, high-growth and later-stage, mature organizations. In his most recent position at BMC Software, Mark served as Manager for the West Region. Prior to BMC, he led Cisco’s Worldwide Go-To-Market division, expanding their OEM and Sell-With business by 300 percent. Before this, Mark was consistently one of BladeLogic’s Top Performers, playing an important role in the ramp-up for the IPO in 2007 and subsequent acquisition by BMC for $800 million. Earlier in his career, he held key sales positions at Internet Service pioneers Digex and Akamai. Mark holds a B.S. in Business Administration, Management and Operations from Florida State University.

A recognized expert in security policy, lifecycle management and compliance, Joan is the inventor of SecureWorks’ Anomaly Detection Engine and Event Linking technologies. She brings over 17 years of experience to her role at Sumo Logic from a wide variety of industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, defense, ISPs and MSSPs. Prior to Sumo Logic, Joan spent nine years with the Guardent/ Verisign/ Secureworks organization where she helped establish key initiatives around policy management, security metrics and incident response. She holds a patent for developing methodology to assess whether a communication contains an attack. She holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Jim Wilson is a seasoned sales executive with over 20 years experience in the Enterprise Software and High Tech industry across markets as diverse as Business Intelligence, Collaboration, Internet Infrastructure, and Computer Aided Design. Prior to Sumo Logic, Jim was Senior Vice President at NICE Systems where he oversaw both regional and major account sales groups, while also managing the integration of an acquired company, Merced Systems, into NICE. Before NICE, Jim ran sales at Merced Systems, the leader in Enterprise Performance Management Software, where he grew sales from $6 million to $72 million over a five-year period, culminating in the acquisition of Merced Systems by NICE. Jim also has deep international experience, having managed the growth of PTC in Asia, as well as the initial entry into Europe for Merced Systems. Prior to Merced, he held executive positions at Microsoft, Groove Networks, Inktomi, and Parametric Technology. He has driven growth at three companies that were ultimately acquired: Merced Systems, Groove Networks, and Inktomi. Jim holds a B.S. in both Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Davis.

Prior to joining Greylock, Joseph spent the majority of his career as an entrepreneur. He was CEO and co-founded several companies including Vontu, which was acquired by Symantec in November 2007 for $350 million. Prior to Vontu, Joseph co-founded and was CEO of Connectify which was acquired by Kana and subsequently went public in 1999. Joseph also worked at Macromedia and Apple which acquired his first company, Trio Development.
Joseph received a Bachelor of Science in Applied Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania where he is currently a member of the Wharton Undergraduate Executive Board.

John McMahon’s career in enterprise software has focused on building and running world-class sales, marketing, and professional services organizations at five leading software companies. Prior to joining the board of directors at Sumo Logic, McMahon served as senior vice president of Worldwide Sales and Services at BMC Software where he was responsible for $1.4B in annual sales revenues. Prior to BMC, McMahon served as the chief operating officer and senior vice president of Worldwide Sales and Services with BladeLogic. At BladeLogic, McMahon played a critical role in transforming the company from startup to public company, with the company’s initial public offering in 2007, and ultimately the firm’s $880 million acquisition by BMC Software.

Mike’s current directorships include Clover, Platfora, Pure Storage, and Sila Nanotechnologies, Inc. He is responsible for a number of the firm’s seed investments.
Mike joined Sutter Hill Ventures in 2008 from Yahoo!, where he was Vice President of Community products — he joined Yahoo! through the acquisition of Bix, where he served as CEO. Previously, Mike was Vice President and Technical Advisor to Symantec’s Chairman & CEO and served as Vice President of Product Marketing and Product Management at VERITAS Software, which was acquired by Symantec.
He also co-founded Epinions.com, worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Company, and was an analyst with CS First Boston. Mike holds a B.A. from the University of Arizona and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, where he graduated as a Baker Scholar.

Most recently, Michael served as Vice President of Product Experience and Executive Producer of the TIBCO User Experience Group. At TIBCO Software, Michael built a new user experience group to a team of more than 90 with the responsibility for the design and development of product interfaces, as well as end-user applications, including the Golden State Warriors and the Oakland Raiders. He also led product teams for TIBCO General Interface and TIBCO Formvine, which he took from concept to first revenue in under 18 months. Prior to TIBCO, Michael acted as CEO and co-founder of General Interface Corp., which was acquired by TIBCO in 2004. He holds an MBA from Columbia University and B.A. in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dean Thomas is an experienced Client Services and Customer Success executive with over 20 years delivering value for enterprise software customers in North America, Europe and Asia-Pac. Prior to Sumo Logic, Dean was Vice President of Application Delivery and Value Added Services for NICE Systems where he led the organizations implementing the company’s full suite of business applications, as well as the Training and Business Consulting teams responsible for all products in NICE’s broad portfolio. Prior to NICE, Dean built and led Client Services and Customer Success at Merced Systems, the leader in Enterprise Performance Management Software, over an eight-year period, growing the team 15 times, from five to 75. Dean was responsible for the software implementations and the hosting operations that enabled the company to reach over $70 million in annual revenue, resulting in the acquisition of Merced Systems by NICE Systems in 2012. Prior to Merced, Dean worked internationally in services and consulting at Intalio, Denalii and Andersen Consulting. Dean holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
